Winery Creates
Visits as Memorable as their Wine
The Company
From the early 1990's to today two brothers transformed
a winery from a farm gate winery to one of the country’s
leading Estate Wineries and the largest family-owned
wine producer in British Columbia.
The Challenge
A parent company with real estate investments including
a winery wanted to improve the vintner’s bottom
line as or many years it had operated at a break-even
point. Over the next five years significant focus was
placed on the winery operation and it grew to become
one of the largest and finest wineries in BC. With their
success, however came some significant operational challenges
including how to continue to grow operations, provide
a quality product, and at the same time increase the
overall winery experience for customers visiting onsite.
The Solution
Working with the family owners, Mecanix developed a
five-year business plan, which included a new operational
roadmap. In the plan, we identified areas for improved
customer experience, including an improved wine tasting
area, wine production tours, an expanded year-round
restaurant and future plans for overnight accommodations
at the winery.
The Benefits
The winery has created a customer experience “brand”
that has put them on the map and captured the imagination
of visitors. They now have a written plan with target
revenues and expenditures, which makes it much easier
to obtain annual funding from the parent company’s
Board of Directors by showing return on investments.
The plan provides focus and goals for the business operation
and is the basis for annual reviews and highlights when
adjustments to the plan should be made.
